Love 2018

I once asked my grand aunt

If my grand uncle ever said he loved her

She laughed and blushed

And after a few moments she replied,

“I don’t remember if he ever did,

But once, when he was still drinking

He came home drunk late at night

And I had to carry him to the bed

He shouted, ‘Lalbuatsaih! The way you just throw me around,

I made a good decision marrying you.’

He was much lighter than I was.

But you know, now that he’s gone, I do not feel as strong anymore

I can feel the marrow in my bones dry up.”

I thought of this while overhearing

A sad boy complain to another

That his lover’s interest must be waning

She now sends him only one heart emoji

Instead of the usual three.
