Poetry at Sangam

Untitled 1 by Mani Rao

Don’t ask who’s cooking tonight

at Harischandra and Manikarnika
holy confidential kitchens of Kashi

Shroud tears, skin sears
Juicy fat’s oblation

Did marrow fizz
Fire, laugh

In three hours and a half
this human log

collectable
in a dustpan

For the first time I think to
count your eyelashes

to pluck them
before they’re singed

Of each I’ll make a
boat unmoored

Where in the worlds
Are you

As if I poured a sky
of wax on you

Everywhere you are not
your exact absence
