Andrew Shields, one of the English Seminar’s Lektoren, arrived in Basel in October 1995 after teaching in Germany and completing a Ph.D. in Comparative Literature from the University of Pennsylvania. In addition to his language-teaching activities, he is a poet and translator, as well as a songwriter and guitarist. His poems, prose, and translations have appeared in journals and books on both sides of the Atlantic.
