Poetry at Sangam showcases poetry in English and translations as well as essays on poetics and news of new releases.
Sampurna Chattarji is a poet, novelist, translator and children’s author with thirteen books to her credit. Her poetry books include The Scorpion (Harper21, 2013); Absent Muses (Poetrywala, 2010); and Sight May Strike You Blind (Sahitya Akademi, 2008). Her novels Rupture (2009) and Land of the Well (2012) were both published by HarperCollins. Her collection of short stories about Bombay/Mumbai, Dirty Love, was published by Penguin in 2013. Sampurna is the editor of Sweeping the Front Yard (SPARROW, 2010), an anthology of women’s writing in English, Malayalam, Telugu and Urdu. She was the 2012 Charles Wallace writer-in-residence at the University of Kent, Canterbury. Sampurna’s poems have been translated into Irish, Welsh, Scots, German, Swiss-German, French, Estonian, Arabic, Tamil, Kannada, Manipuri, Bangla and Bambaiyya. Wordygurdyboom!, her translation of Sukumar Ray’s poetry and prose, has been a Puffin Classic since 2008. Her translation of the Selected Poems of Joy Goswami is just out from HarperPerennial (2014).
