BEYOND GOOD AND EVIL by John Bradley

Shir Lee I yell     She breathes

through the wide     ribbed tube     She can’t

see the man on the scaffolding breathes

through the tube she breathes through     Stop I yell

She takes a another step     The long breathing

tube stretches     pulls the man on the scaffolding

down     onto his back on the hard     scabby ground

Now he breathes

through the slack in his neck     sawdust

on the brown lawn     the shark tooth

embedded deep in the cherry tree    oceanic

hum in the blood     idle hair adrift

on the idle air     everything     it’s not

good     it’s not evil     everything

breathes through
