KISSED THE POISON INSIDE by Rahat Indori

(Translated from the Urdu by by Maaz Bin Bilal.)

Kissed the poison inside and came out cleansed,

All those noble men, came out of their dens.

Tried to win a war against the sun, those fools,

All waxen soldiers, came back melted and bent.

There wasn’t another in the mosque today,

I came back having communed with myself.

I will fight a lifelong battle with sleep,

If the dreams in my eyes turn out to be genuine.

Even the sun saw its face for the first time,

The mirror too enjoyed the reflection.

Unknown shades troll in here these days,

The weather of Kabul is now our resident.
