Rahat Indori is an eminent Urdu poet who is immensely popular in mushairas across the world. He writes on contemporary issues in both the ghazal and the azad nazm forms, in an accessible and melodic language with an individualistic verve. He has also written the lyrics for a number of Hindi film songs. Born in Indore, where he studied for his BA before going to Barkatullah University in Bhopal for his MA, Indori earned a PhD from Bhoj University, MP, in 1985 for his thesis, “Urdu mein Mushaira,” which would have been stimulated by and inspired his own widely-appreciated mushaira readings. Rahat used to teach at Islamia Karimia College, Indore. Some of his popular books published in both Hindi and Urdu are: Naraaz, Maujood, Mere Baad, and Chaand Pagal Hai.
