ROBERT SHEPPARD

Robert Sheppard’s most recent poetry book is History or Sleep: Selected Poems, a compendium of 30 years’ work, published in the UK by Shearsman Books. A pamphlet, Petrarch 3, is the beginning of an engagement with the sonnet (exemplified by the Milton and ‘Hap’ poems in the present selection), which is ongoing. He is currently writing-through the sonnets of Henry Howard, the Earl of Surrey. His ‘autrebiography’, Words Out of Time, is published by Knives, Forks and Spoons, and experimental prose is collected in his Veer collection Unfinish. Also a critic, his The Meaning of Form came out last year. Early this year, a symposium on his work was held at Edge Hill University in Ormskirk, England, where Sheppard, a professor of poetry and poetics, also teaches. He is the co-editor, with James Byrne, of the trans-Atlantic anthology of poetry and poetry, Atlantic Drift, published by EHUP/Arc. He lives in Liverpool, UK, and blogs and comments at his website.
