Translated by Francis R. Jones

Burning – borders of the clouds
sailing – seagulls as the wind rises

surfers on their bellies like the drowned

how waves slide along the breakwater
how their peaks jut forward

how foam on the sand flutters in the wind
and breaks free and rolls further

how the foam washing ashore pushes
the backsliding foam further

how a wave breaks
and only then makes foam

how the white foam of a new wave
slides like a tongue through brown dried foam

how the seawater swirls
and slaps against the pier

wave-crests coming over the breakwater
rain leaping out of the sea.
