Poetry at Sangam showcases poetry in English and translations as well as essays on poetics and news of new releases.
Sheida Mohamadi, Poet, fiction writer and Journalist. Her poems have been translated into different languages, including English, French, Arabic, Czech, Germany, Turkish, Kurdish and Swedish. Mohamadi was recognized as one of the most notable contemporary Persian writers of 2010 by the Encyclopedia Britannica (Encyclopedia Britannica Book of the Year 2010, page 268). She has published six books and one audio CD. Hug Me Against the Haze which is a collection of her poems translated into English was published by Jordan Center for Persian Studies at University of Irvine California. These poems provide a glimpse into the state of modern Persian poetry in exile, where ideas about the self and home, nostalgia, love and a feeling of loss are expressed against the backdrop of three continents visited by the poet. Mohamadi’ in her new audio CD reads from her book I Blink and You are a Peacock to music by Iranian cellist, Homayoun Khosravi. Mohammadi is the first Poet in Residence at the Jordan Center for Persian Studies at the University of California, Irvine for the 2015-2017 academic year and was a Poet in Residence at University of Marylnd in 2010
