STANDARD IX: ENGLISH LESSON 5 by Ranjani Murali

Today, we’ll study question tags,_____ we? Unless

confronted by absolute value, people should employ

tags,______they? Or perhaps it is to emphasize

loss, like that of a phantom toe or a ripped hemline,

that you’d use a tag, _________ you? It’s like when you eat

the last piece of toast but go back to the toaster and peer

inside to watch the coil flame down, ______it? You

must not forget the fruit lying desolate and dripping

on the sideboard, ______you, for the question always

hangs in the butter, implied, where a nail dug in. You might

not understand why we add negation only to subtract

or confuse _____ you but your throat loves the uphill

intonation, _______it? Don’t worry, there is no

thing more disconcerting than not knowing if

you must end your sentence with “____I” or

“_____ I” because your eyes are filled with crumbs.
