ALL THE WATER IN THE WORLD by Sophia Naz

All the water in the world, about thirteen billion
eons old water of Tethys and new womb, breaking

turbid and limpid and frozen and gushing
Niagara & Erie & Indus & Atlantic & speaking

of oceans anonymous, numinous snowflakes
falling silently as hair grazing ground

sills secrets of the drowned, undoing time
abiding in the tides, march of middle passages

tsunamis of history whose rust still stains
ink the color of dried blood, draw

blood that runs like water, cries for mother, a clot
a stop to the shot in the back, in the dark, in the bed

the madness of no return belongs to the desert
I’ve pinned my hopes on the old and young flood

the whole dam thing, come swell current, swift
ungodly hands to skies, bring on the rain
