WORM SONG by Don Domanski

weighted down with plumage the worm dances
like a prophet atop the mountain
like a swan through the darkness

never forgetting to crow out
the countless names of heaven
that gave him wings for this blackness

never forgetting the vortex of flight
carrying his lit face peacefully
beneath the bootsoles of men

always soaring from pole to pole
the whole earth an outreaching sky
carrying his diminished body
around the certain ecstasy
of this globe.
