Sonya J Nair is the editor of Samyukta Poetry – a portal dedicated to featuring poetry in all its psychedelic colours. She has been writing poems ever since she can remember, but like a dogged carburetor, she has to be coaxed and cajoled to publish. She likes to observe people and places around her, which then reappear in her poems. She is on a poetic quest to stop that due to the fast-shrinking circle of acquaintances. She has been published in The Book Review, Kitchen Sink Magazine, EKL Review, Borderless Journal, The Chakkar, INNSAEI, the Shimmer Spring Anthology and Rewriting Human Imagination – an anthology published by IASE and the Centre for Digital Humanities. When not writing poems, she serves as the Head of the Department of English, All Saints’ College, Thiruvananthapuram. She loves animals and giving out incidental information. Sometimes at the same time.
My poetics stem from my memory of the world as I remember it. The before, the between and the beyond. The truth behind the image, heartbeats that echo between silences, footsteps of a retreating past, the many, many colours of thoughts – these serve to nourish my poetry. I listen to the vulnerabilities of human nature and peer intensely at that corner of the mind where darkness draws a veil across innocent fears and stands guard over fragility.
