When you are finally released
because every age of tyranny and suppression
meets a shameful end when it has run its course,
unable to continue the hatred and bigotry
beyond its stipulated time
You, my Professor, who taught me in institutions
once considered free and independent,
at a time which had a comparatively kinder atmosphere
when I meet you again,
I hope I can look you in the eye and say
We did all that we could, all that was necessary
to repay the knowledge and guidance
You imparted us, that the agitation you led
wasn’t in vain,
That we remember you and honor you
and as citizens praying for a brighter future
that you taught us to imagine
today, we hope this authoritarian regime,
its power-hungry despots are thrown
to the garbage bin of History. Soon.
