KT 46: Maamalaatan by Vivek Narayanan

Like a water lily’s faded blossom
the shut wings of the house-bound sparrow
fed on dried front-yard corn     or at the commons
playing and working through the fine morsels in the dung
or under the eaves    nesting with the little ones
Sorrow and evenings and loneliness
don’t they have those friend in that country where he’s gone?
