DR. RUPALEE BURKE

Dr. Rupalee Burke is Associate Professor and Head, Dept. of English at Shree Sahajanand Vanijya Mahavidyalaya, Ahmedabad. She has contributed to the People’s Linguistic Survey of India, led by Prof. Ganesh Devy, as writer and Translation-Coordinator of its Gujarat volume and its English version respectively. Her research articles have been published in various books and journals. She is a writer, reviewer, critic, and translator, and has many publications of translation including Dalit literature of Gujarat into English, Gujarati, and Hindi to her credit. She was  Member-Jury of Sahitya Akademi, Delhi, for the translation prize in Gujarati in 2011. Her English, Hindi and Gujarati translations of oral literature and contemporary poetry by Adivasis and Nomadic communities of Gujarat in Rathwi, Dehwali, Chaudhary-bhili Kunkana and Panchmahali-Bhili languages and the north-east have appeared in Indian Literature,Cordite Poetry Review, Asymptote, Yapanchitra, Lakhara  and others. She has translated  Girish Karnad’s Tale – danda and Narayan Desai’s Ekadash Vrata: The Fount of Gandhiji’s Strength. She is on the Editorial / Advisory Boards of : Research Horizons, an international multidisciplinary journal; Shabdasar, a Gujarati literary journal; and Adilok, a journal devoted to the cultural universe of Adivasis.  She is the co-editor of Vahi, a multilingual journal of poetry. Her translations of the Quebec Declaration in Gujarati and Hindi have been published on the PEN International website.
