A prolific and popular poet in Assamese, Lutfa Hanum Salima Begum has six collections of poetry to her credit. She received the Munin Borkotoky Award for her second collection in 1996. Her poems have been translated into languages such as English, Hindi, Nepali, Bengali, Kannada, Gujarati, Uzbek and French, among others. Begum has also translated Hindi author Chitra Mudgal’s novel, Awaan, into Assamese. A former visiting faculty at the National Institute of Design, Ahmedabad, Begum recently retired as a professor of Assamese from the Cotton University, Guwahati.
