Translated from original Urdu by Vinita Agrawal
Come let us all pray.
We, who do not recollect the rituals of prayer
who uphold in our minds
no idol, no God other than our burning passion for love.
Come, let us put forth a plea
for a beautiful canvas of life.
A prayer that immerses it in the hope of sweet tomorrows
instead of the poison of the present times.
Let us pray
for those unable to withstand
the heavy burdens of their days;
may their nights and days sit sparingly on their eye lashes.
Let us offer at least a candle of illumination
to eyes steeped in darkness
eyes unaccustomed to the faintest pink blush of dawn.
For those who wander aimlessly
and to whom no path beckons
let us guide their eyes
towards a path that they can walk upon.
Let us show the way
to those who have made lies and deceit their religion.
May they be imbibed
with the strength to revolt against wrongs
and have the courage to question evils.
Those heads over whom dangles
the sword of exploitation,
may they be divinely guided
to push away the hands of evil.
May those who suffer
with the torment of silent love
and the fever of its agony
confess their state of mind
and be liberated from anguish.
May every rightful word
that pricks the heart like a thorn, be uttered.
May it be expressed and thereby
may the restless wounds of repression be healed.
