Night at Noon

for Kashmir

1.
bookmarked
in an open tome,
testament
of a stalking night,
twenty-four hours
of night each day,
each day for
twenty-four years~
eclipsing light.

2.
they prowled
around in camouflage
guns in hand,
knives in belts,
eyes bloodshot,
wired to charge.

3.
mother veiled
herself in mist
for twenty-four hours
of night each day,
each day for
twenty-four years from
the camouflaged gaze.

4.
one night at noon,
lightning struck
and thunder
echoed through
her veins.
they ravished
and ravished her
and mother was slain.

5.
on the parchment
of that page,
raged a river
of blood ~
Jhelum  was in spate
with spasms
of humiliation
and rage.

it was darker
than the night
it forever
eclipsed light.
