THE EYES OF DARKNESS by Pradnya Daya Pawar

Translated by Krishna Kimbahune

The eyes of darkness
and its teeth
stirred up
hair flowing more
vigorously than the air

The tongue of darkness:
on its tip
is assembled
the end of
explosive chemical, virulent

words fail
to flawlessly weigh
the spurt of meaning

Stunned
we merely
watch watch watch
the glittering guillotine
of violence

Keep discovering
exact metaphors and symbols
to arrest
its ghastly form

It spits nauseatingly on language —
which proves to be helpless
to narrate it precisely

It now wears
a new face   -hijacked
from the word ‘Democracy’
born again
breaking the tomb of history

Would it make any difference
whether
the eyes are of darkness
or
light?
