RAIN PICTURES by Usha Upadhyay

Translated by Rupalee Burke

These rain showers-
the sky’ s tender love poem!

Receiving the rain,
is it a jasmine flower
or a girl of sixteen bathing?

This monsoon vine,
as if a coy maiden
blushing!

Beautiful rain!
How abundant
the sky’s affection!

Moon and clouds,
as if Radha’s tilted face
cupped in Krishna’s palm!

The wet branch droops_
As if Krishna adorning
Radha’s tresses!
